Domenico was born on the 29th of September 1931 near Caserta, Italy. In 1956 Domenico migrated to Australia leaving behind his wife and a two month old daughter who joined him eighteen months later. Domenico and his family made Adelaide their home and after various jobs Domenico was employed by the Adelaide City Council for thirty years as a garden maintenance hand.
In Italy, as a teenager, Domenico played bocce on the road or wherever it was suitable. Immediately after arriving in Australia, Domenico started playing bocce at a private residence. There was only one bocce court and at times there would be approximately twenty persons waiting to play.
Domenico not only played social bocce but also participated in competitions. For twenty years he was a member of the South Australian Bocce Federation. Domenico has won many trophies, for the most part for single competitions. He has also played Raffa at the Italo Australian Club Inc. Mt Gambier.
Today, at the age of ninety-three, Domenico is an inspiration to all. He lives at home alone and primarily looks after himself. Domenico drives himself to play bocce socially and still participates in competitions, often in the winners’ circle. Domenico is a true living legend.
